Woodbury Heights and Voorhees Chiropractor
Dr. Michael Liberman
My First Experience with Chiropractic…
My first experience with chiropractic occurred while I was an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto in the early 1980’s. I had injured my neck playing hockey and was seen by my family physician. I was prescribed rest and over-the-counter medications, however they did not provide relief. I was then prescribed an anti-inflammatory and referred out for a neck x-ray study, which was negative.
My pain continued in spite of the rest and medication, whereupon I was referred to physical therapy. I did not respond to this either and was obviously quite discouraged. At around this time, a family friend recommended that I see a local chiropractor as he had obtained significant relief for his own problem with this practitioner. I was quite skeptical since I had never heard of chiropractic and had no idea what they did. My mother made an appointment to see the chiropractor and after completing the evaluation, he advised us what my problem was and how it could be taken care of. Within 2-3 weeks of treatment, I was pain-free and quite intrigued about the chiropractic profession.
Choosing A Career in Chiropractic
A few years later, my eldest sister met and subsequently married a chiropractor and he was able to provide me with a great deal of information about the profession. After much deliberation, I decided that a career in chiropractic would be exciting.
After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in 1984, I enrolled at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and 4-years later, I earned my Doctorate in Chiropractic. I practiced for 2-years in Toronto, Canada and then relocated to Gloucester County, New Jersey where my wife was completing her podiatric surgical residency at Kennedy Memorial Hospital. At around that time I decided to open my own office in Woodbury Heights.
Chiropractic & Podiatry
In 1991, my wife, Dr. Amy Herskowitz completed her residency and joined me in my office, allowing us to have a practice that incorporates both chiropractic and podiatry. We have been married since 1990, have two beautiful, healthy daughters, Danielle and Rachael and reside in Voorhees, New Jersey. We enjoy biking, golf, travel and visiting our daughters at their respective colleges.
I enjoy helping my patients get the most out of their lives
With that being said, I feel it is very important that they become involved in their care. For example, many patients that have back or neck problems have underlying instability in the supportive musculature. I educate and guide my patients in a series of spinal stabilization exercises that they can easily perform at home. Once they master these exercises, they feel more empowered and in control.
My love for rehabilitation developed early on in practice, leading me to complete a 3 year post-graduate degree in this discipline. In addition to rehabilitation, I have completed close to 1000 hours of continuing education over the past 20 years, allowing me to keep up to date with current techniques and research.
Chiropractic has given me the opportunity to help so many people in a way I never dreamed possible. I believe that each and every one of us deserves the right to enjoy great health and the greatest quality of life.
